Startup Saturday is an initiative by Headstart to provide entrepreneurs in each city with a monthly community driven forum that is structured in agenda but open in discussions.This meeting is actually about addressing entrepreneurial concerns related to starting up.Takes place every second Saturday of every month in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru or Hyderabad mentioned above.The forthcoming edition, to be held on 12 September 2009, also has a lot to offer.



Well this could be a very good chance to entrepreneurs who are facing trouble in starting up their companies.Many veterans from the technology world, venture capitalists and other domain experts will be present across locations, to counsel, share and advise young entrepreneurs on how they can deal with issues related to funding, taxation, IP (intellectual property), corporate governance, etc.


A Startup Saturday provides a forum for entrepreneurs to discuss, present, network and learn from peers, prospective customers, adopters, partners and investors.



This month's theme for Bengaluru and Delhi is "Start-up Laws". Topics like 10 legal 'must-knows' for a start-up, Legal issues while starting up, et al, will be discussed. Kolkata edition will address subjects like 'The IT/ITeS Industry and the ecosystem of Kolkata and its near future'. While the Mumbai edition will focus on funding options (angel/VC/incubators), the Hyderabad edition will have a discussion on the factors that make Hyderabad a perfect destination for product start-ups.

Electricity generated from a tree


Electricity which is a crucial form of energy resource for the human kind. There has been lots of initiatives taken by the governments of various nations to save electricity as it may go into cricis. There are many researchs being done to get an alternative resource of electricity. Solar energy is one which is being concentrated a lot for making the full utilisation of the power.


Now a new study says there's enough power in trees to run an electonic ciruit. This study was done by MIT saying that plants generate up to 200 millivolts when one electrode is placed in a plant and the other in the surrounding soil.

The researchers have since started a company developing forest sensors that exploit this new power source. The UW team sought to do further academic research in the field of tree power by building circuits to run off that energy. They successfully ran a circuit solely off tree power for the first time.


Carlton Himes the Co-author, UW undergraduate student, spent last summer exploring likely sites.
He hooked the nails into trees and connected a voltmeted and found that bigleaf maples generated a steady voltage of up to a few hundred millivolts.

The UW team next built a device that could run on available power. Co-author Brian Otis, UW assistant professor of electrical engineering, led the development of a boost converter, a device that takes a low incoming voltage and stores it to produce a greater output. The UW circuit is built from parts measuring 130 nanometres and it consumes on average just 10 nanowatts of power during operation (a nanowatt is one billionth of a watt).

Tree power may not replace the solar power but the system could provide a low-cost option for powering tree sensors that might be used to detect environmental conditions or forest fires. The electronic output could also be used to gauge a tree's health. Looking at these kind of researchs, i can say like Technology is taking such diversion which was never imagined by the human kind.

Robots controlled by human brain cells


Robotics is one area of technology where there is lot of RnD is being done. Now british scienticts are on track to develop a new robot which they say that it will be controlled by a blob of human brain cells. Sounds like a sci-fi movie but this is true.

This experiment is being leaded by a team at Reading university which has already used Rat brain cell to steer a simple-wheeled robot. Now they are going a step ahead of using human brain cells.

In fact, for the robot with rat brain cells, 300,000 rodent neurons grown in a nutrient broth and producing spikes of electrical activity were connected to output of the robot's distance sensors. The neurons proved capable of steering the robot around a small enclosure.

According to the scientists, observing how the neuron culture responds to stimulation can improve the understanding of neurological conditions such as epilepsy.

To make the system a better model of human disease, a culture of human neurons will be connected to the robot once the current work with rat cells is completed. This will be the first instance of human cells being used to control a robot.

Their one of the aim is to find the difference between the robots controlled by Human cells and Rat cells. success of this may lead to next level of Robotical engineering this is far away from Artificial intelligence. Lets wait and watch for the future.

iPod Nano with video camera


Apple is pushing hard its gadgets into the market with its added features. ipod Nano is being release with a camera added to it which makes apple gadgets more unique in the market. The new iPod Nano has an improved screen, and will be available in 8GB and 16GB. Its latest component, the video camera, we think will bring Apple much closer to the likes of portable video camcorders like Flip.

It doesn't come with any HD but it will capture VGA videos, 640 by 480 pixels, up to 30 frames per second with AAC audio. The new iPod Nano will also feature FM radio with iTunes tagging and live pausing.
