Gemini threat Strikes on Android

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Android Mobile is now targetted by the hackers with a malicious application that harvests personal information and sends it to a remote server. This seams to be like a botnet and this is named as "Gemini". So guys Gemini the new intruder on the Andriod Mobiles...

Well Botnets are something like which run anounimoously and automatically once reached onto target zone. Geinimi as of now is targetted at chinese users and have found that it has been wrapped into legitimate free and paid games for Android users. Also they are appearing from the 3rdparty websites which offers andriod apps with a minimal security. Some of those programs have appeared to be downloaded thousands of times.

No one is still aware of whats the moto behind the creation of Geinimi. First lets us know what exactly Gemini does once it comes onto our mobile....Now once Gemini enters your mobile this malware communicates with a central command-and-control server. The server can issue commands to a phone remotely, such as to download or uninstall software. The user of the Android phone is prompted and must approve either action.

Hmmmm this sounds to me like using this app one can gain the control over the phone from the server and start installing other mallicious apps on to the mobile. But still some malwares are created for profit making and some for destroying the market... lets see how far this goes. But users please be aware of this app before downloading apps from 3rd party websites.

The app attaches itself to legitimate applications, such as:

Monkey Jump 2
Sex Positions
President vs. Aliens
City Defrense
Baseball Superstars 2010

Lightning Captured by X-Ray Camera

X-Ray for detecting the lightning that strikes back to earth on rainy nights with terrific power. Wow this sounds creepy ha. Yeah Scientists from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne has invented this X-ray machine which can capture these lightnings.

This machine can shoot ten million frames a second and this was targeted at an artificial lightning which was generated by shooting rockets into thunderstorms, with attached wires directing the flow of energy down into their target zone. And this machine captured the Xray of this lightning. The pictures suggest a lightning bolt carries all its x-ray radiation in its tip.

when talking about caputuring the image of a lightning, Joseph Dwyer, a lightning researcher at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, say "Something moving this fast would go from the Earth to the moon in less than ten seconds."

Now you may think whats the moto behind doing this experiment????? For many years scientist know that these lightning emit radiation, but until now scientists didn't have the technology to take x-ray images quickly enough to see where the radiation comes from. Hmmmmm now they made a point on this... But lets see what all can be done with this research.

Oracle releases MySQL 5.5

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Oracle after the acquisition of SUN , comes out strongly with the new release of open source Database MySQL. They have upgraded the version from 5.1 from 5.5. Oracle is targetting Mysql 5.5 for Web applications , then buddy what is Oracle targetted for???

They say that Oracle database is the leading enterprise database for high-end packaged applications: enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, online transaction processing, large data warehouses and business intelligence applications.

MySQl is being widely used in opensource community and as it is part of LAMP, they believe it would be easier for LAMP administrators to handle MySQL when compared to ORacle.

When coming to Mysql 5.5 , whats new with this... 5.5 comes with better scalability and improved replication. Connection pooling has been improved drastically, now it can handle around 1000 connections at once. It also handles large datas with out slowing down the system.
The software can also offer additional performance gains when increasing the number of server cores beyond four, which previous versions were unable to do.

When looked at the performance level, Oracle showed that MySQL 5.5 showed a 360 percent improvement in reads and writes over version 5.1 running on Linux. On Windows Server machines, that performance gain jumped over 1,500 percent. "We get higher throughput in general with 5.5.

In terms of replication, the software now includes the ability to do semi-synchronous replications. Previous versions only offered asynchronous replications, meaning the backup copy of the database would not be updated as soon as new data was entered to the original.

These were the facts given by Oracle on its new release. Now lets wait and watch for more reviews on the usage of Mysql 5.5.

Google Earth 6.0

Monday, November 29, 2010

Google has come up with the annoucement of Google earth 6.0. what's new about GE6 now? well it has come up with integrated street view experience and 3D trees. 3D trees???? sounds strange ha.. come lets check it out...

First of all, let me know you guys what is "integrated street view". Using this feature you can directly move upto your doorstep vitually. Now here comes the concept which i was imagining when i first heard about Google earth. The concept is, there is a pegman whom you can pick and drop along the highlighted roadways ... and you can use the navigation controls or your mouse to look around.

And unlike the earlier Street View layer, you can now move seamlessly from one location to another as if you’re walking down the street by using the scroll-wheel on your mouse or the arrow keys on your keyboard. If you want to visit somewhere farther away, simply click the “exit” button and you’ll immediately return to an aerial view where you can easily fly to your next destination. Wow this is just like a 3D video Game.

Then comes another feature "3D trees". Google Earth 6 includes 3D models for dozens of species of trees, from the Japanese Maple to the East African Cordia to the cacao tree.

Google says: "While we’ve just gotten started planting trees in Google Earth, we already have more than 80 million trees in places such as Athens, Berlin, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco and Tokyo. Through our Google Earth Outreach programme, we’ve also been working with organisations including the Green Belt Movement in Africa, the Amazon Conservation Team in Brazil and CONABIO in Mexico to model our planet’s threatened forests."

There is also feature incorporated with GE6 which is useful in viewing Historical images. while moving on the screen in GE6 and if you come accross any historical image.... then you just click on that image and it gives the oldest date of the image and once you click on the date it will take you to that timeperiod...

Well these are some of the main features of Google Earth 6 ... just try using this and leave me the comments how did u like GE6.

And it is good to use this in the range of 12 feet distance from the screen..

If you think about the battery back up .. they say it can be used continuosly for more than 3 hours which can easily play one full movie, or a presentation etc..
and a film quality of 25 frames per second (FPS) – which is as good as the FPS used in movies.

The phone is a touch-screen dual SIM (GSM + GSM) variant and also has another feature - dual screen mode (phone screen mode and projector screen mode are simultaneously active). It comes with dual camera and a dual card memory slot of 8 GB each to expand the internal memory of 64 MB.

Monday, October 4, 2010

Twitter has annouced a new money making scheme !! Twitter has launched another application which allows users to advertise their products through twitter to more than 200 million users registered with twitter. Social networking was defined as one of most powerful media for marketing and twitter is ready to exploit its 200 million registered users..

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Google has announced a project named "Project 10-to-the-one-hundredth", which is all about gathering the innovative ideas accross the world and then select 5 ideas which can change the world.

I have seen about this project way back in 2008, in a local news paper. There was a small article on this project and then when i checked in internet they had a site www.project10tothe100.com. Here we can submit our ideas and personal details.

Well the interesting thing is , even i have submitted an idea that is about connecting charities accross the world. But as expected it didnt get selected :) i dont mean they are bad at selection or am bad at my idea. But i say there were great ideas which can really change the world.

Google has annouced the names of the winners and alloted total of $10 million dollors prize money for the winnners.Google whittled the selection down to 16 "big ideas" and the public got to vote online to determine the five that would be backed by the Mountain View, California-based firm.

The non-profit Khan Academy will get two million dollars to bolster its free online library of educational videos and translate core works into the world's most widely spoken languages.

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cape Town will get two million dollars to open more centers to promote graduate level math and science study on that continent.

Non-profit group FIRST that promotes science and math study worldwide through team competitions will get three million dollars to start a robotics program for students.
Google will give two million dollars to Public.Resource.Org to support a Law.Gov initiative to make US court documents, statutes, legal forms, and other government documents easily available to anyone online.

The final award of one million dollars went to New Zealand-based startup Shweeb to develop and test a transportation system based on personal monorail pods powered by pedaling the way one might while riding a bicycle.

Microsoft Announces Windows Azure At OSI Days 2010

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Microsoft the software giant has announced the availability of a new set of developer tools and Software Development Kits (SDKs) for PHP developers who want to build applications for Windows Azure. This is a very interesting move by Microsoft to look upon where there are two employees from microsoft waged war against opensource, just two days ago.

Well Microsoft which was strongly impacted by opensource market is now forced to stick to opensource policies i guess so. Specially targeting the cloud computing. Microsoft wants the tools and SDKs are targeted at providing developers, especially open source developers, with more choice.

Microsoft was working with opensource communities for the past two years to expand its business. And now Microsoft focuses on next big thing Azure cloud computing services as they believe it would play a vital role in critical businesses, government and organizations.

Microsoft is providing development tools and SDKs which include the Windows Azure Companion Community Technology Preview, the Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse for PHP, the Windows Azure Command Line Tools for PHP and the Windows Azure SDK for PHP version 2.0.

Its pretty good that microsoft is showing its interest towards opensource, coming to cloud computing recently microsoft has stated how it can improve its revenue to 30 % extra from India by using cloud computing. Microsoft business in India is impacted a lot by piracy and nearly it looses 30 % of its profit because of piracy. Microsoft is planning to utilize its cloud services in providing the software to the consumers so there is no scope for piracy. Well its a good move by Microsoft but a bad news for developers at the initial stages who begin their careers.

Android is the Fastest Growing Mobile OS

Friday, September 17, 2010

Andriod OS, is gaining its grip on the market pretty fast. It is giving a tug of war to Apple. The recent release of Apple was iphone 4 which was pretty good hit on its records but still coudlnt stop its market share from going the Andriod way.
Andriod is a big thing in with the gadget freeks now. I have seen many of my friends choosing andriod mobiles. Most of them might not be aware of andriod but they still going for those phones with a minimal knowldege. So why there is a such a big hype for Andriod in the market. I say the main reason is , Andriod is into gadgets from Midrange to Highend gadgets which is available to the people of middle class and Andriod being opensource there are thousands of applications that can be downloaded on to the mobiles.

Now Why not apple is gaining the grip or in other way why Apple is loosing the grip? The simple answer for this is , Apple havent tied with some of the world’s largest mobile carriers, such as Vodafone and Verizon And when it comes to Microsoft, it has got its own sector or consumer sector.

When looking onto percentages, Android gained 5 per cent market share in the period from April to July 2010. RIM lost 1.8 per cent, Microsoft lost 2.2 per cent.RIM and Apple are still the top smartphone manufacturers in the United States with 40 per cent and 24 per cent, respectively. Android is third on the list but has gained momentum from 12 per cent in April to 17 per cent in July. Gartner also came out with its report last week which stated that Android is set to be the number two OS in global market share by the end of 2010. The report also stated that by 2014 Android will will be battling for market share supremacy with Symbian from Nokia.

pocket-sized projector by Lemoptix

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Technology is taking new dimensions day to day. It has change the world to a lot extent for the last decade. The best thing i say is Mobile phone , these gadgets have seen many changes for the last few years and now it can be said as one of most powerful gadget around here.

Now you smartphones, windows mobile, andriods etc etc and imagine a mini projector attached to it which can display the images from your phone on to the wall or any other screen, sounds cool ha ....

This is done by the Engineers at Lausanne, Switzerland-based Lemoptix, a spin-off from EPFL.Smaller than a credit card and with a projection head of just 1cm3 in size, its developers claim that the device can enable documents and videos to be projected onto a wall in the same way as current fixed projectors.
This micro-projector functions using tiny mirrors of less than a millimeter’s thickness. Positioned on a silicon (wafer) disc, they reflect red, blue and green laser beams,” says EPFL research director Maher Kayal.
One important thing they say is , this miniature consume less power than the matrix or LED based technology which is currently in the market. This pocket projector works at a minimum distance of 50cm and enables the projection of images onto a surface equivalent to a 15in screen.

I have seen this sort of technology being used by a techie who came in TED conference earlier. May be this is not the same, but whatever this could be very useful especially in official purpose,Medical institutes or otherwise.

This will be available into the martket in 2011 for industrial applications and then the following year for consumer electronics, according to Nicolas Abelé, technical director of the start-up, which is located in the EPFL Science Park.

Google App Inventor for Android

Monday, July 12, 2010

Google the internet giant has taken another step in approaching the masses for in developing Andriod software. This can be a really good step by google where i was talking about the major problem which is being faced by Microsoft, i.e Opensource. Google is offering a software tool, that is intended to make it easy for people to write applications for its Android smartphones.

Andriod OS has really picked by the opensource community and as i said always Mobile is the next big thing, sorry its already a big thing :), Google is concentrating more on Mobile technologies. Recently HP annouced the cloud technology which is focused mainly towards the mobile users where user can create some tasks on the cloud and they can use it even with mobiles which arent enabled for internet.

Now Google says the user should be a creater not just a consumer .. sounds cool :).Google wanted to allow its users to create applications on the mobile and then use them. They release free software called Google App Inventor for ANdriod.

The freesoftware called Google App Inventor for Android (http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/), has been under development for a year. User testing has been done mainly in schools with groups that included sixth graders, high school girls, nursing students and university undergraduates who are not computer science majors.

“The goal is to enable people to become creators, not just consumers, in this mobile world,”

The interesting fact about this software is, even a non technical user can develop any application on his or her mobile phone just by dragging some code snippets and put them together which results in as a new application :) so simple.

The Google application tool for Android enables people to drag and drop blocks of code —shown as graphic images and representing different smartphone capabilities — and put them together, similar to snapping together Lego blocks. The result is an application on that person’s smartphone.

On user testing of this app, a student created an application which automatically replies to the text messages while driving .. i mean to say "custom messages" like "please do message me iam on driving"... guys i have an idea include Artificial intelligence which starts chatting with your freinds while you perform some other task... :) sounds creepy ha but that day is not too far away i guess.....

HP's Cloud technology ease the Mobile web access

Thursday, July 8, 2010

HP Labs India has developed a cloud-based technology, called SiteonMobile, that simplifies accessing content and doing transactions on the Web. Well as i always said Mobile is the next big thing and it is the future, techonology is developed towards mobiles more and more day by day...

I say this is can be a next milestone in mobile technology bcoz users can send just an sms or a calling up a number that invokes the relavent TaskLet on the cloud... Now you may thinks what's TaskLet. this is the core media of this technology... when ever a user wants to navigate web to achieve some task, users needs to go through lot of steps where as in this technology these steps are encapsulated in the cloud app. that HP calls as TaskLet.

As India has the largest market for the mobile users where over 600 million mobile connections are exisitng, HP wanted to create this technology way back in 2008 as most of the users interested in accessing web through their mobiles.

Even though there are more than 600 million connections here in India the biggest challange for the mobile companies is most of the users are not intellectual to use Web on Mobiles specially mass sector, but HP says this technology doesnt need any technical knowledge to use this technology, all they need to do is creating a tasklet.

As more than 50 percent of users have low-end phones without browsing capabilities, the new technology throws open the Internet to a new category of users who may not even have an Internet connection.

HP Labs is offering the technology by invitation through the SiteonMobile Web site. The technology is also being piloted with three companies. The lab expects that a large number of vendors offering a variety of services will find it useful to use the HP Labs technology to offer TaskLets to potential customers.

you can find more information on SiteonMobile Web site.

Is Microsoft stumbling to capture the market?????

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Microsoft the software giant has got another hit(i mean a bad one) on its business. Well Microsoft was trying too hard to capture the market filled up with technologies floating around. The classic examples are Microsoft kin, Microsoft bing, Microsoft IE9,Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Phone 7 , so on......

what i wanted to say is, Microsoft is trying its best in diversified sectors starting from its own game OS war to browser War and from playstations to Mobile industry. Microsoft’s engineers and executives spent two years creating a new line of smartphones with playful names that sounded like creatures straight out of “The Cat in the Hat” — Kin One and Kin Two.

It is clear that Microsoft wanted to increase the sales of its products which attract the youngsters who look for socialnetworking features and flashy features with the mobiles. But interestingly Kin didnt succeed which Microsoft never expected. This shows Microsoft is poor in providing gadgets for youngsters.

I really dont know why such a big technology company is struggling to produce the gadgets where Apple, Amazo,.Google are succeeded to lot extent. May be it is due to opensource strategy followed by other companies, they are getting succeeded.

The Kins’ flop adds to a long list of products — from watches to music players — that have plagued Microsoft’s consumer division, while its business group has suffered as well through less-than-successful offerings like Windows Vista and Windows for tablet computers.

Steve ballmer has really got a tough job to do here. As Microsoft is totally failed on captalising the changing trends with the market.

In 2008, Microsoft acquired a start-up, Danger, that had built popular mobile phone software, hoping that technology would revitalise its waning phone software business. But Microsoft stumbled as it took longer than expected to create a new product with the technology. In April, Microsoft finally introduced the fruits of this labour when it unveiled the Kin phones.

In contrast, Google, a chief Microsoft rival, also bought a mobile technology start-up — Android. Both Android and Danger were co-founded by Andy Rubin, who joined Google. That sounds cool...

Microsoft, however, has reassigned the Kin development team and put them to work on Windows Phone 7, yet another mobile phone platform, expected later this year.

The basic problem is Opensource is strongly impacting the microsoft's growth. The vast majority of technology start-ups today rely on open-source software.
And so the technology-minded people coming out of college have started learning their craft on free software and betting their careers on non-Microsoft wares.

For example, if young group of entreprenuers want to startup a technology company it will be a tough task to buy Microsoft software and so they opt for open source. Microsoft has tried to court young developers and young companies. In November 2008, it created a pair of programs that give students free access to Microsoft’s business and developer software. In addition, Microsoft allows some start-ups to run their operations on its software at no cost over a limited period.

About 35,000 start-ups have been involved in the program since it began, the company said.

“For the most part, Microsoft has been great to work with,” said Mark Davis, the chief executive of Virsto, a software start-up that received aid from Microsoft. “It’s funny to be in Silicon Valley and say that.”

Others, however, laugh at the idea that Microsoft requires the start-ups to meet certain guidelines and jump through hoops to receive software, when its free software competitors simply allow anyone to download products off a Web site with the click of a button.

BUt Microsoft has to seriously think upon their startegies to hold the grip on the market. I believe they are trying too many ways to gain the grip but i believe such a technology giant doesnt need too much of diversified plans to penetrate into markets. All they need to do is look onto their conditions, strategies and plan. Thats it... i can say that's is bcz its easy to say but i know its very tough to do :)

Cisco unveiled a tablet computer

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Networking giant Cisco unveiled a tablet computer for business professionals on Tuesday as technology rivals line up to compete with Apple's iPad.

The Cisco Cius, pronounced "see us," is powered by Google's open-source Android operating system and boasts eight hours of battery life.

Cisco said customer trials of the Cius would begin later this year and the device would be available in the first quarter of next year.

It weighs 1.15 pounds (0.52 kilograms), less than the iPad's 1.5 pounds (0.68 kgs), and has a seven-inch (17.8-centimeter) screen, smaller than the 9.7-inch (24.6-cm) screen on the Apple device.

Unlike the iPad, which does not have a camera, the Cius features two -- a front-mounted high-definition camera which allows for HD video streaming and real-time video, and a five-megapixel rear-facing camera.

The Cius also offers email, instant messaging, Web browsing through Wi-Fi and eventually 4G connectivity, and the ability to produce, edit and share content stored locally or on the Internet, Cisco said in a statement.

Cisco said the device was designed to provide workers with "the ability to access and share the content they need from any place on the network."

"This platform can transform how healthcare professionals advance patient care, how retailers deliver service experiences to consumers, or how universities deliver world-class education to their students," said Tony Bates, a Cisco senior vice president.

US computer giant Dell last month unveiled a tablet computer called the "Streak" which is also powered by Google's Android.

Apple said last week that it has sold more than three million iPads since the device went on sale on April 3.

Misuse of Unique identity leads to punishment of 1Crore fine!

UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India ) has announced its way of punishing the culprits who commits the fraud in usage of this unique identity. This is the highest punishment as per the law

The Authority has proposed strict punishment for certain crimes related to attempts to damage the central database containing biometric information of people, with the highest punishment being Rs 1 crore in fine, coupled with a three-year jail term.

The draft law says that if any person "intentionally discloses, transmits, copies or otherwise disseminates any identity information collected in the course of enrollment or authentication to any person not authorized," he will be punished by imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with a fine which may extend to Rs 10,000. In the case of a company, the fine may extend to Rs 1 lakh.

Now the question is, if this unique identity is given to below middle class or even below that.. and if with out knowledge, any person disclosed his information and if the committee comes back and saying they are doing fraud, that would be totally injustise. Bcz they never asker for this process, Govt is throwing this process on to innocent poor public and imagine if they start collecting fines every now and then from different sections of people.

I strictly believe , keeping in mind the population of our nation and different sections of people , they need to come up with different mode of punishment. Even Governing bodies doesnt have such a big fine for the fraud they are commiting and this is totally bad to thrown such huge punishments on to public.

Intitially there gonna be lots of hicups in this process of assinging identity and usage of identity. And if they bring in their law of punishing the people for misusing the card , i think its not gonna work out...

Any ways The Authority has also sought suggestions from the public on the bill, saying, "Comments and suggestions may be sent to lawresponse@uidai.Gov.In or to the UIDAI office addressed to Deepika Mittal, Assistant Director General, Unique Identification Authority of India, 3rd Floor, Tower II, Jeevan Bharti Building, Connaught Circus, New Delhi-110001." The bill would become a law once it has been passed by both the Houses of the Parliament.

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Google the internet giant comes to news once again with an aquisition of a future predicting company named "Recorded Future". "future predicting COmpany" sounds strange ... Well as said earlier Google policy is to acquire a small company every month and go with bigger acquisitions every 6 months.

The company, Recorded Future, based out of Boston, has developed a data analytics technology that could be used to try to predict future stock market events or even terrorist activity.

On a the company’s YouTube channel it explains:

“Recorded Future allows financial analysts, intelligence analysts, and predictors to organize and aggregate future observations with ease,”

HCL bags $500 mn Contract from Merck & Co.

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

HCL tech, the fifth-largest Indian IT giant has bagged an excellent contract from a US Firm. HCL has got contract of $500 mn from Company named Merck which is major pharmaceutical company. Merck has been an HCL client for six years but the deal marks a substantial enhancement of the relationship.

“HCL’s deal with Merck is one of the largest strategic engagements in HCL history. We will add jobs in north Carolina for the project"

Well this is one of the biggest deals in the recent times i guess, as this contract will pan out for 5 years. I see Indian IT giants are picking pretty big deals in the recent times as TCS had a pada deal with UK government is pegged around $600 million although it did attract political backlash. Patni in the mid size space also bagged $200 million deal from the insurance company Universal American.

For the past two years i can see like Indian IT sector was really missing the bigger deals , i mean to say the deals which are near and above $500 mn , the average size of the deals was reduced to $50-$200 million range. But the recent deals from TCS, Patni or HCl can give hope to Indian IT sector is market is still open for the bigger deals.

Well i see HCL is doing a great business, Last year, HCL bagged a $350-million outsourcing deal from media house Readers’ Digest and now it has got much bigger deal than that :-).

Social Networking impact on Companies strategies.

Monday, May 3, 2010

Social Networking the big thing that exists in the virtual world as of now. Well the sites like ORKUT, Facebook, twitter has made an enough impact on the market, celebs, sports, retails industry etc. These sites are so effective now for example, media is eyeing on these sites for what celebs are chatting around. Any controversies around these sites filled up with huge comments around.

For example recent Contraversy of IPL , Tharoor was giving comments on twitter to the public which was acting like an unofficial media to publish his comments to the people. Now these sites both positive and negative impact on the people using these sites.Well as of now i am gonna share only positive thoughts about these social networking sites.

Concept of social networking has shown way to many entrepruniers as new way to interact. And also in the segment of retail industry this is shown an impressive impact. Now this social network has created its own platform where companies are forced to follow these sites to know about the feedback or their place in the market or puclic view about their products.

A few days ago, a customer from Jammu & Kashmir wrote on M&M vice chairman and managing director Anand Mahindra’s Twitter page about the delayed delivery of a Mahindra Scorpio. The effect was instantaneous. Mr Mahindra replied with just two words ‘Arun, Vivek?’, referring to his senior executives Arun Malhotra and Vivek Nayer. That’s the power of social networking.

“Earlier, if you were happy or unhappy with a brand, there wasn’t any platform to discuss it so openly. Now there are some websites like Mouthshut.com which is very effective in sharing the reviews about the products used by the consumers. There were limited avenues. Even for brands, connecting with consumers was never as easy as it is today,” says Saloni Nangia, vice president at management consulting firm Technopak Advisors. Social media has provided the perfect powerful medium to express positive or negative feedback.

Traffic to these social networking sites has been dramatically increased in past two years.Facebook has nearly 14.1 million unique visitors which is very near to orkut 18 million visitors. Twitter is a very huge platform too. Looking at these companies comedown to these sites and start advertising and also companies like dell is registered with twitter and people who following Dell will get messages instantly if Dell annouces any discounts or any other new launch. This can be very effective in increasing the sales for a Company.

Traditional product management doesn’t apply to social network/media since the primary relationship is no longer user-to-platform, but user-to-user.

Jennifer L Aaker, General Atlantic professor of marketing at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University says, “Traditional product management doesn’t apply to social network/media since the primary relationship is no longer user-to-platform, but user-to-user. Therefore companies need to think about themselves as a market regulator, setting the rules and users creating whatever they want within those limits.”

Well companies are creating communities for the users to interact with them and conduct promotional activities etc. This concept was not only helpful for the virtual world players but also to the mobile world. I mean many of the big players of Mobile industry is opting for Social networking now, harldy we can see any mobile in the range of Rs 5000 to Rs 7000 without a social networking option.

I think there are many industries which needs to use the concept of social networking yet.May be this concept is so simple yet very powerful, this concpet can say like simplicity is always effective.

NASA R2 Human like Robot to be in Space

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Robotics engineering or Robots is always an interesting topic to look on. Well Nasa is going to launch a Robot called R2 this september to send it to the space which helps the astronauts in various things. When i go indepth into how Robots are generated its very interesting. Robots are nothing new to the ancient history too.

Many ancient mythologies include artificial people, such as the mechanical servants built by the Greek god Hephaestus (Vulcan to the Romans), the clay golems of Jewish legend and clay giants of Norse legend, and Galatea, the mythical statue of Pygmalion that came to life. In Greek drama, Deus Ex Machina was contrived as a dramatic device that usually involved lowering a deity by wires into the play to solve a seemingly impossible problem
In the 4th century BC, the Greek mathematician Archytas of Tarentum postulated a mechanical steam-operated bird he called "The Pigeon".
Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) sketched plans for a humanoid robot around 1495.Jacques de
Vaucanson exhibited several life-sized automatons: a flute player, a pipe player and a duck.

Guys i was just digging through the history like when did this concept called a Robot came into picture. In the current world i feel japanese are the stronger in building these Robots with advanced technologies.

The first truly modern robot, digitally operated and programmable, was invented by George Devol in 1954 and was ultimately called the Unimate. Devol sold the first Unimate to General Motors in 1960, and it was installed in 1961 in a plant in Trenton, New Jersey to lift hot pieces of metal from a die casting machine and stack them.

I have seen some science fiction movies which talks about Andriods and Cyborgs. well androids (artificial men/women) or gynoids (artificial women), and cyborgs (also "bionic men/women", or humans with significant mechanical enhancements), these are some of the robotic Characters.

Well coming to our New Robot R2 which is Robonaut 2 is a human like robot . It has been developed by NASA and the GM and it has been announced that that R2 will be traveling to the Space Station in September.

Unlike his predecessor this model is more flexible and designed to help out the astronauts with lifting heavy objects. Although R2 resembles like a human with two arms he moves with set of 4 wheels which makes him perfect for exploring planet surfaces. Many robots were sent into space before but none of them looked like a human more that this one. How much this model will actually help the astronauts remains to be seen, because his movement isn’t tested in a zero gravity space. Anyway, I guess that we will have to wait until September to see how R2 and the space crew work together in a space station..

VDownloader –Review

Well i was just looking over internet for downloading some videos and i have got article which talks about a software called "V-Downloader". They say that it saves lot of time in searching for a video and then downloading it. for example it can even fetch videos from youtube, google and many other sites.

It is like most of the downloaders which runs on the backend where you can start working with other app's while this v-downloader is ON. VDownloader is extremely simple to use application with 5 buttons on its left side bar that are enough to control your computer as well as your complete surfing habits. The size of the setup file is 6.62 MB

The Activity Button is where the basic feature of the application lies.As show above, all that you have to do is enter the Video URL and opt for the output format in which you want your downloaded video to be saved. The application has various forms of output formats available that will make life a lot easier for an average video downloader. From windows media player compatibility to iPad compatibility, VDowloader handles everything without any downsides.
One can set default output formats by changing the settings of the applications so that all videos are download in that particular format by default. Setting timers, default folders to save downloaded videos, surfing your downloaded history, surfing through your disk to look for more videos, searching videos from the Internet and surfing the web for your own personal use are some of the few features that VDownloader boasts about.

There are some interesting features with this downloaderlike scheduler, multiple language supportYou can edit software settings so that the application downloads videos only during weekends, weekdays or during some predefined hours thus making your downloading habits highly controllable. Decide the time when your Internet bandwidth is least used and set VDownloader to complete the downloads during that time period. Now, you won’t have to face slow Internet problems due to parallel downloads and you won’t even have to worry about starting/stopping downloads when your Internet is free. VDownloader does the honors for you.

And one more interesting feature of this is the Web feature. Using the web feature of VDownloader you can surf literally any website and download videos from that website provided that the particular page has some video that can be downloaded.

Guys why dont you try using it and give me some feedback, even i do the same in a while :)

Pocket Video Camera Shoots for Hours

Friday, March 26, 2010

Tiny Cameras are the one which are really interesting and handy in recording. ucorder has launched a video camera which records for hours. you can carry this camera in your shirt pocket and start recording the surrounding for hours.

The uCorder comes in two flavors: 1GB and a 2GB, for $80 or $100, both of which shoot 640 x 480 VGA video. i guess spycameras are much cheaper than this, but this works double the webcam. As both come with an SD-card slot, through which can be added an extra 8GB, Fully loaded, you can get seven hours of footage from a small, light package that will clip into a front pocket, hang around your neck or mount onto a helmet.

movies are in AVI format, and you import them by plugging the camera into a USB port and dragging the files across. The camera also charges via USB. The most obvious use is sports, or at least non-contact sports.

If some body wants to check the things in your home for example like paranormal activities turn the camera on and leave it till morning :) i am just kidding but you use this for a better purpose than what i said.

Laser security system to fight hackers

Hacking, this is this word which panics many Companies who feel their data is very confidential and which needs to be shared thorugh networks. such as defence networks, governament websites or any other banking websites. But to be frank this work makes think the people who do this are really intelligent. Well Hackers use lot of methods to hack through the network and in some cases they have even cracked the codes which companies felt like they cannot be cracked atleast billion years.

This time scientists have invented a method which can protect the network.Israeli scientists have invented a laser security system which they claim can beat today's hackers and the hackers of the future with existing fibre optic and computer technology.

There are practices being done in developing quantum computers for the future which are very powerful and uses the quantum theory. And these scientists say that even a quantum computer cannot crack the code if they generate the code successfully as per the new laser methods.

The researchers at Tel Aviv University's School of Electrical Engineering have found that by transmitting binary lock-and-key information in the form of light pulses, the device ensures that a shared key code can be unlocked by the sender and receiver and absolutely nobody else.

As i said earlier , hackers are using such a powerful techniques to hack for example When the RSA system for digital information security was introduced in the 1970s, the researchers who invented it predicted that their 200-bit key would take a billion years to crack. "It was cracked five years ago. As computers become increasingly powerful, the idea of using the RSA system becomes more fragile thus the solution lies in a new kind of system to keep prying eyes off secure information.

Imagine the cases where we need to send secure key over a non secure network which is Hacking prone zon, as the hacker once find the key being sent he can grab it very easily.

Dr Sheuer lead of this laser technique found a way to transmit a binary code (the key bearer) in the form of 1s and 0s, but using light and lasers instead of numbers.

"The trick is for those at either end of the fibre optic link to send different laser signals they can distinguish between, but which look identical to an eavesdropper," the author said.

Dr Scheuer developed his system using a special laser he invented, which can reach over 3,000 miles without any serious parts of the signal being lost.

This approach makes it simpler and more reliable than quantum cryptography, a new technology that relies on the quantum properties of photons, the researcher said.

well with this we can already sense the era being started into quantum computers.
