whats all about Nokia and Microsoft Deal

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Nokia confirmed its partnership with Microsoft which starts a news phase of mobile OS for Nokia. Now the question arises what happens to Symbian and its opensource project MeeGo.Wel Nokia has choseen Windows Phone 7 operating system on its mobile devices as its primary smartphone platform. With this deal, Microsoft Bing and other services are going to be featured on Nokia smartphones.Well what made Nokia to take this step???

Last couple of years , there is a huge competetion by Google and Apple. Specially Google Android is been a serious contendor for its competetors in the market and it has really captured the market to great extent. In the current scenarios Microsoft's windows phone 7 has done very good job in its sales, which may have attracted Nokia and not only market grip but also technical capabilities of window phone 7 os attracted Nokia, i believe.

Well Meego was much expected than what it is at present because Meego was a OS developed with the support of the chip maker giant "Intel". When Nokia says Meego would go down , Intel strongly contended saying it still has much scope and being an Opensource platform it can be much developed.Meego will still use QT where as Nokia developers are going to use Windows tools, Visual studio 2010 and XNA framework.

Now the big question is "what's the future of symbian". Well i see it doesnt have much future when looked on to this deal but still Nokia says it has a franchise model for symbian and it is still planning to release around 150 million symbian based phones in next year. Now i really wanted to look on what all the difference between symbian and Windows phone 7 OS and Android.

With all this happening around Nokia and Microsoft , lets see to what extent Nokia going to leverage the benefits of Microsoft OS and its gonna be a real game for Microsoft to show its capabilites, as it is paired up with one of the biggest mobilephone manufacturers and compete the opensource OS Android.

Microsoft Announces Windows Azure At OSI Days 2010

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Microsoft the software giant has announced the availability of a new set of developer tools and Software Development Kits (SDKs) for PHP developers who want to build applications for Windows Azure. This is a very interesting move by Microsoft to look upon where there are two employees from microsoft waged war against opensource, just two days ago.

Well Microsoft which was strongly impacted by opensource market is now forced to stick to opensource policies i guess so. Specially targeting the cloud computing. Microsoft wants the tools and SDKs are targeted at providing developers, especially open source developers, with more choice.

Microsoft was working with opensource communities for the past two years to expand its business. And now Microsoft focuses on next big thing Azure cloud computing services as they believe it would play a vital role in critical businesses, government and organizations.

Microsoft is providing development tools and SDKs which include the Windows Azure Companion Community Technology Preview, the Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse for PHP, the Windows Azure Command Line Tools for PHP and the Windows Azure SDK for PHP version 2.0.

Its pretty good that microsoft is showing its interest towards opensource, coming to cloud computing recently microsoft has stated how it can improve its revenue to 30 % extra from India by using cloud computing. Microsoft business in India is impacted a lot by piracy and nearly it looses 30 % of its profit because of piracy. Microsoft is planning to utilize its cloud services in providing the software to the consumers so there is no scope for piracy. Well its a good move by Microsoft but a bad news for developers at the initial stages who begin their careers.

Is Microsoft stumbling to capture the market?????

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Microsoft the software giant has got another hit(i mean a bad one) on its business. Well Microsoft was trying too hard to capture the market filled up with technologies floating around. The classic examples are Microsoft kin, Microsoft bing, Microsoft IE9,Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Phone 7 , so on......

what i wanted to say is, Microsoft is trying its best in diversified sectors starting from its own game OS war to browser War and from playstations to Mobile industry. Microsoft’s engineers and executives spent two years creating a new line of smartphones with playful names that sounded like creatures straight out of “The Cat in the Hat” — Kin One and Kin Two.

It is clear that Microsoft wanted to increase the sales of its products which attract the youngsters who look for socialnetworking features and flashy features with the mobiles. But interestingly Kin didnt succeed which Microsoft never expected. This shows Microsoft is poor in providing gadgets for youngsters.

I really dont know why such a big technology company is struggling to produce the gadgets where Apple, Amazo,.Google are succeeded to lot extent. May be it is due to opensource strategy followed by other companies, they are getting succeeded.

The Kins’ flop adds to a long list of products — from watches to music players — that have plagued Microsoft’s consumer division, while its business group has suffered as well through less-than-successful offerings like Windows Vista and Windows for tablet computers.

Steve ballmer has really got a tough job to do here. As Microsoft is totally failed on captalising the changing trends with the market.

In 2008, Microsoft acquired a start-up, Danger, that had built popular mobile phone software, hoping that technology would revitalise its waning phone software business. But Microsoft stumbled as it took longer than expected to create a new product with the technology. In April, Microsoft finally introduced the fruits of this labour when it unveiled the Kin phones.

In contrast, Google, a chief Microsoft rival, also bought a mobile technology start-up — Android. Both Android and Danger were co-founded by Andy Rubin, who joined Google. That sounds cool...

Microsoft, however, has reassigned the Kin development team and put them to work on Windows Phone 7, yet another mobile phone platform, expected later this year.

The basic problem is Opensource is strongly impacting the microsoft's growth. The vast majority of technology start-ups today rely on open-source software.
And so the technology-minded people coming out of college have started learning their craft on free software and betting their careers on non-Microsoft wares.

For example, if young group of entreprenuers want to startup a technology company it will be a tough task to buy Microsoft software and so they opt for open source. Microsoft has tried to court young developers and young companies. In November 2008, it created a pair of programs that give students free access to Microsoft’s business and developer software. In addition, Microsoft allows some start-ups to run their operations on its software at no cost over a limited period.

About 35,000 start-ups have been involved in the program since it began, the company said.

“For the most part, Microsoft has been great to work with,” said Mark Davis, the chief executive of Virsto, a software start-up that received aid from Microsoft. “It’s funny to be in Silicon Valley and say that.”

Others, however, laugh at the idea that Microsoft requires the start-ups to meet certain guidelines and jump through hoops to receive software, when its free software competitors simply allow anyone to download products off a Web site with the click of a button.

BUt Microsoft has to seriously think upon their startegies to hold the grip on the market. I believe they are trying too many ways to gain the grip but i believe such a technology giant doesnt need too much of diversified plans to penetrate into markets. All they need to do is look onto their conditions, strategies and plan. Thats it... i can say that's is bcz its easy to say but i know its very tough to do :)

Microsoft-Yahoo! Deal Make life tough to Google

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Microsoft is tightening up the battle (online) for Google. Yes the Software giant and the online giant Yahoo deal is been cleared by the Americal and European Councils yesterday which is a 10 year contract where microsoft Will push Bing as the mainstram search engine and Yahoo concentrated more on luring big advertisers.

The 10-year deal, struck last July, is part of Microsoft's plans to create an online business to rival Google, a field where Microsoft has lost $5 billion since 2006.

Well the performance of Bing was not too bad in the last year but it has some way to go to challenge the rival Google."Microsoft really has room to throw money at this," said Kim Caughey, senior analyst, Fort Pitt Capital Group.."Microsoft really has room to throw money at this "I think it can work. If they can make inroads in specific target areas, they could have something positive to report." Microsoft has claimed a measure of success with its search engine, Bing, racking up 3.3 points of market share since its June 2009 launch. But Bing has some way to go before it can even seriously think of challenging Google.

Battle between Microsoft and Google is not only limiting to online business but it has got into Operating systems and mobile phones. As discussed earlier its very hard to say who wins the battle and the fact is no one made an major impact on their either's core market.

ADAM, the Ipad Killer from India.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Apple's iPad may soon face the rival in the market but this time it faces the competetion from India , sounds strange but true. An Hyderabad based startup Notion ink. is launching its ADAM into the market and soon it gonna give the first flick at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. But first, it was sneaked a preview at Hyderabad’s BVRIT Innovation Centre, where they are based. The big thing it it going to launch directly into the US market initially and start competing the rival APPLE.

Well i was always dreaming about a product based company i mean a potential product which competes the world leaders in the market. I think this is gonna make huge impact on the market now and if does so, india may not be seen as only service providers but also considered as potential players in the IT harware.

Good thing is there are more and more entreprenuers tunring up day to day and specially from Hyderabad and Bangalore there are many startup companies which are looking for a break, and Notion inc succeeds in launching their product that may give lots of spirit to startup accross the nation. And Notion inc was started by young IItians and an MBA graduate.

We knew that Indian engineers and designers were doing most of the innovative work at Microsoft, Intel, and Apple. We just needed to take the first step,” says co-founder Rohan Shravan.

‘‘ Current PC technology is like a Hummer on a city road,’’ quips Rohit Rathi, the youngest of the group at 23, and, along with Shravan, one of four co-founders from IIT Kharagpur. Two are from IIT Delhi while Sachin Ralhan, the eldest at 25, is a childhood friend of Shravan and Rathi and an MBA from IIPM. Apart from Ralhan and Rathi, the other five are all aged 24. What’s so different about their tech? Three years in the making, the Adam tablet is the first device in the world to integrate two breakthrough power saving components — nVidias Tegra 2 chip and a PixelQi screen. Together, they help it achieve twice the battery life and performance of the iPad. The chip provides an edge over the iPad, with its ability to play full high definition videos and Flash on the web browser. ‘‘ It can offer the performance of a computer with the power consumption of a cellphone,’’ explains Shravan.

Adams integrates many innovations first used in the $100 OLPC (one laptop per child) project. Unlike traditional screens, PixelQI screen has a dual mode, and can be read in bright sunlight like an e-reader . With the backlight off, the company claims that it can increase battery life between charges by a factor of five.

NOTION ink didn't do this at an ease but they faced many obstacles specially getting the patent rights and the developers to work on the touch screen interface that runs on Google Andriod mobile operating system and if they need to get the resources who worked on Andriod they need to be higly paid around 1 lakh per month so they come up with a plan of training our engineers.

The company trained and then recruited over 50 engineers at BVRIT in Bachupally, Hyderabad. ‘‘ We got the infrastructure at their Innovation Center, and the students as well. We knew the technology in and out and started training them. Within two months it started paying off, and we started developing the professional applications for the product we wanted to design.’’

‘‘ The company is working on an application store platform of its own, where users can find a wide variety of content. It will offer everything from apps, books, video, audio, to magazines, newspapers and comics,’’ says cofounder Rajat Sahni. ‘‘ We see more and more users reading newspapers on e-readers and tablets in the near future , and has designed a lightweight product that adapts well to this purpose. They showed us a version of how a digital magazine would look on the Adam. We’ve taken design inspiration from a 400-year tradition — the user interface of magazines!’’ chuckles Shravan.

I wish this should be an successful product in the international market which showcase the indian market potential in the IT harware industry and as i said this can build the spirit among the start-ups accross India.

Top 10 Microsoft Programming Languages

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Microsoft the software Giant shares the most used programming languages which keeps a track of them for its ongoing business. Many of them wanted to know this information if not i was one of the person among which who are very eagar to know about the programming languages which they use. I being a .Net developer i am very passionate about Microsoft and when looked on these languages there are one or two which i never heard about.Well c and c++ are the most basic languages which are most prmary languages used at Microsoft. But here is the list of the languages used for most at Microsoft...

C++

C++ is the workhorse language at Microsoft. The company uses C++ to build many of its core applications. C++ is a statically typed, free-form, multi-paradigm, compiled, general-purpose programming language. C++ is widely used in the software industry, and remains one of the most popular languages ever created. Some of its application domains include systems software, application software, device drivers, embedded software, high-performance server and client applications, and entertainment software such as video games.

C#

Microsoft announced Microsoft C# in 2001 as a modern, object-oriented programming language built from the ground up to exploit the power of X M L-based Web services on the .NET platform. With its object-oriented design, C# is useful for developers building a wide range of high-performance Web applications and components—from X M L-based Web services to middle-tier business objects and system-level applications. The language has been crafted to help developers accomplish more with fewer lines of code, and with fewer opportunities for error.

Visual Basic

Basic can be considered the language that Microsoft was built upon. Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) is an object-oriented computer programming language that can be viewed as an evolution of Microsoft's Visual Basic (VB), which is implemented on the Microsoft .NET Framework. Microsoft is considering opening up the compilers of both Visual Basic and C#.

IronPython

IronPython is an implementation of the Python programming language running under .NET and Silverlight. It supports an interactive console with fully dynamic compilation. It's well-integrated with the rest of the .NET Framework and makes all .NET libraries easily available to Python programmers, while maintaining compatibility with the Python language. IronPython is hosted on Microsoft's CodePlex open-source project hosting Website and is part of Microsoft's open-source strategy.

IronRuby

IronRuby is a .NET implementation of the Ruby programming language.
IronRuby heavily leverages Microsoft's Dynamic Language Runtime, and both are released with full source code under the Microsoft Public License. The IronRuby source code is hosted on Rubyforge, which is a home for open-source Ruby projects. IronRuby is implemented on top of the Dynamic Language Runtime, a library running on top of the Common Language Runtime (CLR) 2.0 that provides dynamic typing and dynamic method dispatch, among other things, for dynamic languages. IronRuby is part of Microsoft's open-source strategy.

JavaScript

JavaScript is an object-oriented scripting language used to enable programmatic access to objects within both the client application and other applications. It is primarily used in the form of client-side JavaScript, implemented as an integrated component of the Web browser, allowing the development of enhanced user interfaces and dynamic Websites. JavaScript is a dialect of the ECMAScript standard and is characterized as a dynamic, weakly typed, prototype-based language with first-class functions. JavaScript was influenced by many languages and was designed to look like Java, but to be easier for non-programmers to work with. Microsoft keeps abreast of JavaScript for its Internet Explorer browser and other Web applications. JavaScript was created by Brendan Eich, chief technology officer of Mozilla Corp.

F#

F# is a typed functional programming language for the .NET Framework. It combines the succinctness, expressivity and compositionality of typed functional programming with the run-time support, libraries, interoperability, tools and object model of .NET. F# was initially developed by Don Syme at Microsoft Research but is now being developed at Microsoft Developer Division and will be distributed as a fully supported language in the .NET Framework and Visual Studio as part of Visual Studio 2010.

PHP

PHP is a widely used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML.
Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7.0 provides an open platform for hosting PHP applications from a single server. The Microsoft Web Platform supports interoperability of PHP applications and solutions built on Windows. Many PHP developers currently use Windows for their development environment of choice, and with the Windows Web Application Gallery, PHP developers now can choose from numerous applications and solutions, built in PHP, that run well on Windows. In addition, PHP developers can benefit from the huge community bases of ASP.NET, PHP, Microsoft Partners and other communities out there that are committed to supporting the Windows Web Application Gallery. Microsoft also offers a PHP software development kit (SDK) for its Windows Azure cloud platform. In addition, Microsoft has a partnership with Zend, the PHP company, to support PHP on the Window platform and in the cloud.

"M"

The Microsoft language code-named "M" is a declarative language for working with data and building domain models. "M" lets users write down how they want to structure and query their data using a textual syntax that is convenient to both author and reader. "M" does not mandate how data is stored or accessed, nor does it mandate a specific implementation technology. Rather, "M" is designed to allow users to write down what they want from their data without having to specify how those requirements are met by a specific technology or platform. "M" is part of the Microsoft modeling technology formerly known as "Oslo" and now known as SQL Server Modeling. Don Box, a Microsoft distinguished engineer and the company's chief modeling officer, was a founding member of the "M" language team.

Axum

Axum is an incubation project from Microsoft's Parallel Computing Platform that aims to validate a safe and productive parallel programming model for the .NET framework. It's a language that builds upon the architecture of the Web and the principles of isolation, actors and message-passing to increase application safety, responsiveness, scalability and developer productivity. Other advanced concepts Microsoft is exploring are data flow networks, asynchronous methods and type annotations for taming side-effects. Although Axum is an incubation project, Microsoft has included support for Axum in the beta release of Visual Studio 2010.

Well these are most used languages in Microsoft and keep looking for info on Microsoft.

Chrome Heats up Google-Microsoft rivalry

Google-Microsoft rivalry heated up more now by the announcement of chrome from google.Chrome is expected to be released to the Open source community and if this new linux based OS catches on quickly after it will available in next year, Google can easily convice the corporate users that its hosted google apps offering is better alternative to Microsoft's Office suite.

Microsoft has something to look on, as in a conference held in Mid of November google reveiled that the new OS cant fully replace Windows. This OS runs web-hosted apps and only supports peripherals that comply with specific Hardware desings. They say there are some applications todays that aren't available on the web. And this is systems which doesnt support for some applications like if you are a lawyer planning to spend your whole day editing contracts back and forth this isn't the right machine.

"This really is a fight to the death for Google and Microsoft" said an analyst ar Instat."It is a fight between business models for software, applications, advertising and the internet".

Chrome users needs to be Ok with the cloud computing and its basic premise of keeping their data and applications in third party data centers. This new OS is more focused towards the WEb utilising which is Google's mainstream business. When asked about is the new OS supports typical desktop apps like photoshop fullfledged, they say this is not for that and "that war was fought and Long ago almost".

Chrome is focused on revitilising the netbook market which is going down gradually as the conventional laptops are becoming cheaper these days.

Well Chrome unveling came into picture less than an six months by the announcement of BING by Microsoft. In the war of Microsoft and Google analysts say they dont see a potential winned or a looser but we may see many technology variations.

Pictures Inside a Microsoft data center

Friday, November 6, 2009

Microsoft has reveiled its pictures of their Data center which is located at chicago. These are the pics which i got from cnet news. In its first phase, the ground floor of the facility is designed to hold up to 56 containers, each filled with anywhere from 1,800 to 2,500 servers.

Here are the visuals

The second floor of the Chicago Data Center is home to a more traditional server room consisting of racks of servers with cool air coming up from a raised floor.

Building the data center required 2,400 tons of copper, 3,400 tons of steel, 26,000 cubic yards of concrete, and 190 miles of conduit.

Keeping everything cool is made possible with 7.5 miles of chilled water piping.

Although the data center is massive, it is managed with a staff of 30 to 45, including custodial and security workers. Building the facility, however, generated roughly 3,000 construction-related jobs, with the peak workforce reaching around 1,100 workers.

Even with all its power saving techniques, the first phase of the data center can scale to 30 megawatts of critical power.

Containers will eventually house two-thirds of the servers in the data center,

Over time, Microsoft expects to invest $500 million in the Chicago facility, just one of several existing or planned data centers.

"The hum, the background beat that you feel, it's really the heartbeat of the Internet," said Kevin Timmons, general manager of data center operations for Microsoft.

An exterior view of the Chicago Data Center. Because Microsoft isn't looking to attract attention, there's no identification outside. Even on the inside it's hard to tell whose facility it is, unless you look closely at a couple art pieces that note they are from Microsoft's art collection.

Visual Studio 2010 in March 2010

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Microsoft lovers and .Net developers have a great news last october. Microsoft has annouced that it is ready to release the second beta version of VS 2010 and .net framework 4.0 on March 22 2010.

Microsoft products has the new features like Tivo-like recording feature that Microsoft has now dubbed "IntelliTrace." which actually deals with recording the things which were used on the tool earlier. I mean to say Microsoft plans to include the ability to record the full screens of what testers are seeing, as well as data about their machine. When a test application crashes, the technology will enable developers to see the bug as it occurred.

Microsoft has reached the home stretch for Visual Studio 2010," said Dave Mendlen, a senior director in Microsoft's developer division. "This is probably the biggest release we've had in many years."

Microsoft Developer Division Director Dave Mendlen said the feature is designed to avoid the all-too-frequent conflict that occurs when a software tester finds a bug that the developer says it can't reproduce. Internally, the feature has been called "TiVo for debuggers."

They are also talking about the new modeling tools which makes the programmers who are new to the team can easily understand how the earlier versions of the software worked. One of the other goals is to add more business intelligence tools--things like dashboards and cockpits--that enable the project managers to assess whether a development project is on track. "The guys that are paying the bills often get very little info," Mendlen said.

Also in default vs 2010 release includes the support for Winodws 7 and Azure. So guys lets wait and watch for the big release.

Microsoft: Cyber criminals attack Unpatched IIS Bug

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Microsoft has landed up in problems again, this time it with the bug in IIS which has been released into public earlier. Cyber criminals are beginning to exploit an unpathced bug in IIS.

The flaw can be exploited to let an attacker take control of an older IIS (Internet Information Services) 5.0 server running on Windows 2000, provided the hacker has some way of creating an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) directory on the server. Other IIS users could also be hit with a denial of service (DoS) attack.

This new code could be used to launch a DoS attack against IIS 5.0, 5.1, 6.0 and 7.0, and could affect users running IIS on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Microsoft said. And also for the attacker, he needs to be aware of reading the files on the system.Microsoft updated its security advisory on the issue late Thursday, saying it was starting to see "limited attacks that use this exploit code."

Microsoft will release its scheduled September security updates today, but it is not expected to fix this bug until it has had more time to test and develop a patch. Microsoft was not notified of the bug until the attack code was made public on Monday.

Kilimanjaro Microsoft SQL server 2010

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Kilimanjaro is no longer just an inactive volcano in Tanzania, as Microsoft has borrowed the name to designate the next iteration of its data platform. Microsoft is coming up with big release of much awaited sql server 2010 . Good news for all sql server developers and admin , get ready for the new tool coming into your hands loaded with new features .As per the information first Preview build is by late 2009 around dec or jan 2010 and release is in late 2010 or early 2011.Its code name is Kilimanjaro

“Kilimanjaro is focused on 'People Ready BI'. A key component of Kilimanjaro is 'Project Gemini', this is all about self-service BI using Excel. The vision behind Gemini is to free IT resources by giving business intelligence analysis and reporting capabilities to the end-users without IT losing control,” revealed a "Technology Solution Professional" for the Data Platform.

SQL Server 2010 will focus on what the company calls “managed self service” with new reporting tools. Microsoft promises with this release to make it easier for users to pull data from various sources, but make all that work traceable by IT. What’s new here is new in-memory features that will let users pull all that data into Excel, lay out out tables and charts with clickable elements”.

SQL Server 2008 shipped with Policy-Based Management, a way for DBAs to control large numbers of instances by setting up configuration policies. For example, we can create policies that every table must have a primary key, or that all stored procedures must begin with usp. SQL Server 2010 takes this to the next logical level by enabling these policies by default.

Windows 7 Ready to Release

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Microsoft on Wednesday said it has finalized the code, making the way for the software to make its way onto retail shelves and new PCs in time for its October 22 launch.

Microsoft is keenly looking on to the release of this OS and hopes to differ from the earlier release of the OS which was Vista. Windows Vista didnt had a good review in the market. Lots of bugs and issues have been raised on its performance and compatibility. Microsoft is launching its new OS after 2 years and hoping for a better release.

Windows 7 relies on the same underpinnings as Windows Vista, but adds a lot of features aimed at making the operating system both look and perform better.

Visually, it does a better job of managing open windows through an improved taskbar and a feature that lets users peek at one particular window or see the desktop that is hidden below all of the windows. On the performance side, it boots up and shuts down faster, and can run better on Netbooks and low-end machines.

Microsoft is also working hard in marketting windows 7.Microsoft plans to offer Windows 7 in a number of different versions ranging from a low-end "starter edition" to an ultra-high-end "ultimate version."
