Thursday, March 26, 2009
NASA and Microsoft has come up with an agreement that says microsoft will make Planetory images and data available thorugh internet to world wide users. This is very cool stuff like Google earth which explores the earth regions. Now Microsoft have choosen to explore the sky and make the information available to the users on the internet. By working on this project both microsoft and nasa will develop a technology and infrastructure to make high resolution scientific images and content regarding Nasa, available to the usrs using Microsoft's Online Telescope.
Ed Weiler, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington says that “Making NASA’s scientific and astronomical data more accessible to the public is a high priority for NASA, especially given the new administration’s recent emphasis on open government and transparency,”
Under the joint agreement, NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, will process and host more than 100 terabytes, or 20,000 DVDs of data. WorldWide Telescope will incorporate the data later in 2009 and feature imagery from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).
This project will be helpful for the students accross the world who do reasearch on space. Microsoft is planning to provide 3-D interactive images to the users.Ames is under the process of devloping some tools which can convert the historic and current space imagery data into wide range of formats .
NASA is currently focusing on publishing its Data to the public by using Microsoft Hi-fi Technologies.Well i think when microsoft has done some projects like Surface computers , they are easily capable of doing this thing. Well just wait n watch for this new Microsoft Telescope which takes you to the space.
