Verizon retail outlets and third-party stores will offer the Netbooks at a cost of around $100, but this will be with a contract most likely for a data plan or alongside a cellphone with voice plan.

Hackers turn Google into vulnerability scanner

Friday, March 27, 2009

As i was just browsing on articles like online security i found an interesting thing which is called Goolog scan. "Goolag Scan" works as a Web auditing tool, and enables anyone and everyone to audit their own Web site through Google.May be this post is helpful for the system administrators of any organisation.
Here is more detailed information from Networkworld which says about Goolog scan

The hacking group Cult of the Dead Cow (CDC) has released a tool that turns Google into an automated vulnerability scanner, scouring Web sites for sensitive information such as passwords or server vulnerabilities.

CDC first achieved notoriety ten years ago with its backdoor Back Orifice, which demonstrated in a highly public way just how easy it was to take unauthorized control of a Windows PC.

The new tool, called Goolag Scan, is equally provocative, making it easy for unskilled users to track down vulnerabilities and sensitive information on specific Web sites or broad web domains.

This capability should serve as a wake-up call for system administrators to run the tool on their own sites before attackers get around to it, according to CDC.

The tool is a stand-alone Windows .Net application, licensed under the open source GNU General Public License, that provides about 1,500 customized searches under categories such as "vulnerable servers," "sensitive online shopping information" and "files containing juicy information."

The results are displayed as a list of links that can be opened directly in a browser. Example results include tell-tale error messages and Java applets for the remote control of surveillance cameras, according to CDC.

Goolag Scan is based on "Google hacking," the practice of exposing vulnerabilities via Google, which CDC says has been pioneered by a hacker going by the handle "Johnny I Hack Stuff."

Goolag Scan is, however, the first time such vulnerability searches have been built into a simple tool, according to CDC

Google lays off 200 in sales and marketing

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Google is rectifying its mistakes which it has committed during the period when it was growing rapidly. It says that due the bad position of the market it is planning to cut the employees globally. Employees who were targeted to layoff will be given a chance to find a job in company and if they are not able to find any job then they have no way to go. And to do this they will be given some unspecified time. The changes affect workers globally, Omid Kordestani, Google Inc.'s senior vice president of global sales and business development wrote on the official Google blog.

As the company expanded, it sometimes created overlapping organizations, resulting in duplicated efforts and a more complicated decision-making process. "In addition, we over-invested in some areas in preparation for the growth trends we were experiencing at the time," he wrote.

To be clear this is not the first time google is doing this. Prior to this in January, it laid off 100 recruiters and closed engineering offices in Texas, Norway and Sweden. This year it has also shut down services, including Jaiku, Dodgeball, Catalog Search, Google Notebook, the ability to upload to Google Video, and Google Print Ads.

Life-saving technology for powered two-wheelers

Keeping in mind regarding serious injuries and fatal accidents on motor cycles and motor scooters anti-locking devices on motorcycles and motor scooters were launched by motorcycle brake systems.German Tier 1 supplier Continental has developed this antilock braking system (ABS) for motorcycles. This weighs around 1.2kg, the ABS system can be adapted to fit various motorcycle models. Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Aprilia, has now equipped the three of its models – the Mana, Shiver and Dorsoduro – with the new system.

There was research conducted by German;s Federal highway on motorcycle accidents and it revealed that one among five is happened due to locking of front. And ABS can prevent 93% of crashes from occuring.Looking at this particular technology i feel like this can be implemented for racing bikes or high speed machines not on the Indian roads where you get hardly 80 Kmph max speed with out any traffic.
ABS could prevent 93% of these crashes from occurring. Even if the braking distance is insufficient to prevent a collision, ABS greatly reduces the speed of the impact by controlling the braking maneuver
speaking on this Dirk Remde, director of Motorcycle brake systems said “It is just as important for motorcycles that the vehicle remains stable when braking hard, as it is for cars. When the front wheel locks, it almost always ends up with the bike crashing”, he continues. The ABS sensors on the front and rear wheels check how fast the wheels are rotating when the brakes are applied. If they start to lock, a control device cuts the braking pressure and reduces the risk of the cyclist will losing control of the bike.

IE8 Vs Firefox

Well in my one of my earlier posts i was talking about launch of IE8 . Now IE8 is a new player in the browser market . Microsoft said it is very useful at the times when applications being shifted to cloud computing and good at secutiry features. But just as important as all that is browsing speed--that is, how quickly can IE 8 render your favorite Web sites? To get an idea of how IE 8 compares, pcworld has put it into test

These are test methodologies mentioned in pcworld.com

Speed-Test MethodologySpeed-Test Methodology

In our browser speed comparison, we pitted a near-final build of Internet Explorer 8 against Firefox 3.0.7, the current non-beta version of Mozilla's browser. We used a set of nine popular Web sites in our testing: Amazon, MySpace, Yahoo, PC World, YouTube, Microsoft, Apple, eBay, and Wikipedia. To ensure we could gather as accurate page-loading times as possible, we recorded our testing sessions for review later on.

We loaded each site ten times in each of the browsers and repeated the process the following day to rule out any network traffic or server issues. Prior to each test run, we cleared the browsers' caches as well. We also repeated the load tests to ensure that we had sufficient data to identify loading speed trends. To ensure consistent results, we performed testing on a fresh Windows Vista installation, and we reinstalled the operating system before each round of testing. Additionally, we removed the two best and two worst scores for each page load test to produce more consistent results.

Browser testing can be tricky, as different browsers measure page loading progress differently, so getting a read of page load times strictly by the browser's progress bar could result in inaccurate or inconsistent results. Have all the images appeared? Are there elements of the page that have yet to load even though the browser's status indicator suggests otherwise? These are questions we take into account when testing browsers. Given this, we took into account visual indications of a page's loading progress, rather than relying on what the browser's progress bars told us.

The Speed-Test Results

By and large, we found that Internet Explorer 8 performed well, and beat out Firefox 3.0.7 in the majority of our time trials.

However, IE 8's performance advantage is relatively negligible. In most of our testing, IE 8's advantage was half a second or less. One notable exception, however, was in loading the English-language Wikipedia home page, where IE 8 beat out Firefox by an average of one second (IE 8 took about 2.2 seconds to load the page on average, while Firefox 3 took about 3.3 seconds). Also of note: on average, IE 8 loaded Apple's home page nearly twice as quickly as Firefox.

IE 8 is Faster, But Will You Notice?

In practical, everyday use, you likely won't notice much of a difference between IE 8 and Firefox 3. Due to the fact that broadband connections are so commonplace today, and the fact that browsers in general can load pages faster than they could even a couple years ago, the page load time differences between the two are relatively moot. If you use Firefox and are happy with it, you may as well stick with it. That said, it is encouraging to see browser vendors compete with each other, and aim to ship the fastest Web browsers they possibly can.

Online shopping is Eco friendly

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Ecommerce this is word which known to many people accross the world. European countries and USA are already utilising shopping portals to lot extent. when compared in India people here are still not aware of online shopping. Online shopping portals are the one which may be seen used a lot in the future. Reasearch says that Online shopping can be one thing which can be considered very serious aspect in the development on the environment.

The researchers compared the carbon footprint of a typical trip from a local delivery depot with that of average shopping trips by car and by bus, and found home deliveries involved a much lower level of carbon emissions. And also imagine all you need to do is just a click and the goods are at your place with no effort of yours.

The team from the Logistics Research Centre at the university found that a typical van-based home delivery produces 181g of CO2, compared with 1,265g for a bus trip and 4,274g for a trip by car.

It means a shopper would have to buy 24 items when going by car or seven items when going by bus to equal the lower level of carbon emissions created by having one item delivered by van.

Well one thing i can say is using the online concept of online shopping as we discussed we can develop the evranment around us and reduce the pollution and traffic and also one key aspect is that in India people still not aware of online shopping , so we can assume that it can be the booming market around where people are getting more and more used to the internet. So this could be a very good chance for enterpreunuers who want to start up their business on the Web.

Sony's new Cyber-shot DSC-G3

Sony's new Cyber-shot DSC-G3 is the first camera with its own Web browser, Wi-Fi connectivity, and 4GB of on-board storage. This camera is of 10 megapixel and costs around $500. The exciting feature of this camera is that it is having an Web browser. And also has some cool features like "one touch" wifi uploads.

Using wifi features of this gadget we can uplaod the pictures to picasam photobucket and other sites from the camera and also we can upload the videos to you tube.Damn this is too interesting for the people who likes to upload their pics in picasa or videos in youtube. This gonna reduce lot of effort for the uploading the pictures into internet from the camera.

Accoring review in pcworld Web browsing feature limited in several ways, not the least being a clumsy interface. You must delete and enter URLs character by character (no "select all" here), and with a small, somewhat slow touch-screen interface, that can become pretty frustrating. You can also upload only one file at a time--a batch-upload feature would have been great. The chief attraction to the wireless aspect of the DSC-G3 is clearly its simple photo-uploading ability; don't expect to be visiting all your favorite Web sites on this camera's browser.

The Cyber-shot DSC-G3 provides most of the features of its T700 cousin, including a smile-triggered shutter, face detection, and scene selections such as snow, fireworks, beach, a night mode, and a portraiture mode that supposedly softens the background while keeping the subject in focus

Sony Ericsson has released its first outdoor Bluetooth speaker, the MS500.
The cool feature of this is you can use your mobile for operating this music player for changing tracks, this happens by music player getting synchronized with the mobile device using bluetooth. It means i think it works only around 100 meters radius.

It's powered by two AA batteries and works within a 10 metre range of the device, working for up to five hours on one battery charge.
Hanging from the wrist

Sony Ericsson says: "The MS500 speaker is designed for the outdoor environment with a durable splash-proof shell and handy strap, which makes it perfect for attaching to a bag, or hanging from the wrist."
We beg the world to never hang this speaker anywhere while it is playing music, unless you have the written consent of everyone within a 100m radius. And even then perhaps think about not doing it.

But still we need to wait and watch for this device as it sounds funky and will be in different colors . It can be another unique gadget in their collection for the people who are fond of gadgets.

Apple has introduced an new Ipod shuffle which is half the size of the previous model. They say the best thing is their new ipod shuffle gonna talk . I mean it can say the song title, play list etc.
“Imagine your music player talking to you, telling you your song titles, artists and playlist names,” said Greg Joswiak, vice president, product marketing, iPod and iPhone, Apple. “The amazingly small new iPod Shuffle takes a revolutionary approach to how you listen to your music by talking to you, also making it the first iPod Shuffle with playlists.”

iPod Shuffle can speak 14 languages including English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. It features up to 10 hours of battery life.

In this just by a press of a button you can operate everything on the ipod like song selection to hear the name of the song. May be this innovation take another mile stone towards the technology achievements. By i personally feel spending the extra money from your pocket just to listen the name of the song or playlist is not worthfull. Looking from an technology perspective definitely it is new big step from Apple.

After all this short-listed bidders will be asked to submit their bids and an executed copy of the share subscription agreement. The company did not list the procedure by which bidders will be short-listed, and did not specify what type of financial and business information will be released to bidders on the short list. A company spokeswoman said no further information on the bid process is available at this point, apart from the company statement.

Now comes another dimension to the ever-growing list of eye-catching mobile features: the 3D display. This featured was first included in Hitachi's mobile which started its sales on the last month at the price of 510 $. It has a tiny button which states as 3d at the bottom of the keyboard which when pushed makes the display mode in to 3D mode.

This is pretty similar to the technology which is used in Tv and movies which uses 3D technology.Wooo phone comes with its own invisible barriers packed inside the display to ensure the 3D effect. The 3D feature works for any image, but it would be more enjoyable if there were more mobile content especially designed for 3D. I hope poeple wont say that there is no 3D effect in reading an e-mail.

There are no plans to sell the 3D cell in the United States and other overseas markets, according to mobile carrier KDDI Corp., which offers the phone. KDDI doesn't disclose the number of 3D handsets sold so far.

IBM Launches Green Consulting Service

For the past few years Government was publisising about the importance of environmental impact. Its a tedious thing to analyze energy and water use, assess waste management, evaluate overall environmental impact and develop improvement strategies.

Now IBM has introduced the consulting service for the government to provide them a facility which eases their assement on this environmental stuff. They provide the Government to have better understanding on overall performance on Environmental issues, identify improvements that can increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact including greenhouse gas emissions, and help ensure public institutions meet their own rising environmental standards.

This was very good thing initiated by IBM as this is requirement which is in need by the people ."Citizens everywhere are demanding that governments improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact, and public officials at every level are responding by raising standards for how they operate," said Eric Riddleberger, IBM's business strategy consulting global leader, who heads up the company's corporate social responsibility consulting efforts. "Using a comprehensive approach that employs new, smart processes and tools to assess current performance and develop improvements can help public agencies meet those standards while maintaining proper levels of public service."

By using this service the consumer can judge the requirements according to the priority given by the system. Like they provide the informtion about the priority using the colour coding. Red suggests that it is an high priority action. Using this Government can get assistance in developing the strategies for implementing the changes.

Kumo the New search engine by Microsoft

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Kumo is the new buzz around the internet world these days .So far we have serach engines like google do search queries based on the matching of the words with the content in the website. These words are taken from the search box and then starts the search which looks a match of that particular word.

Microsoft is comning with totally unique strategy in search. A Kumo.com search engine being privately tested by Microsoft workers is reportedly based on semantic technology that enables it to understand sentences and relationships between words.

According to Microsoft Live Search general manager Mike Nichols , he said "Our hope is that our employees will give us great feedback on our new features and that it all becomes part of the external experience soon.""Our hope is that our employees will give us great feedback on our new features and that it all becomes part of the external experience soon."

Well if the KUMO is launched perfectly on to internet market after the testing phase we need to watch that will microsoft replaces the "live search " with "kumo.com".

I thinks this kind of search strategy is very helpful for the people. Usually people donot find the exact information what they want for which they have typed as the search engine looks only for the matching words not the relation. Well Kumo sounds Cool . If its succeeded then its a new milestone achieved by the microsoft in internet maket which they were strugling to come up.Well Microsoft is coming with lots of things and we need to keep an eye on IE8 which is going to be launched soon!!!

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Fews days back we were talking about 10$ Pc where whole world was watching us but it was a big FLOP show by our manufacturers. But now i have come accross something called PLUG COMPUTING. Sounds interesting rite well check it out.

A plug computer is a small, powerful computer that connects to an existing network using Gigabit Ethernet. This type of device eliminates the need for an always-on PC in the digital home to access these services.
This concept was introduced by Marvell a leading fabless semiconductor company, Marvell ships over 250 million chips per quarter.

Marvell calls it the Plug Computer, for its small form factor that can plug directly into a wall socket (it looks like a big AC adapter wall wart without the cord) and at is designed to draw so little power (5 W) that it can be left on all of the time.

Specifically, the Plug Computer unveiled is called “SheevaPlug,” a development platform uses a Marvell Kirkwood processor based on an embedded 1.2 GHz Sheeva CPU equipped with 512 MB of FLASH and 512 MB of DRAM. Connection to the home network is via Gigabit Ethernet. Peripherals such as direct attached storage can be connected using a USB 2.0 port.

As the project would creare 16,500 direct and 64,000 indirect jobs .Man this is a huge count. The project is expected to earn Euro 20 billion over a period of 7 years, if 60 per cent of the output is exported.

This unit will produce silicon which is the principal component of most semiconductor devices, most importantly integrated circuits or microchips. Silicon is widely used in semiconductors because it remains a semiconductor at higher temperatures than the semiconductor germanium and because its native oxide is easily grown in a furnace and forms a better semiconductor/dielectric interface than any other material.

In the form of silica and silicates, silicon forms useful glasses, cements, and ceramics. It is also a constituent of silicones, a class-name for various synthetic plastic substances made of silicon, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen, often confused with silicon itself.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Government and the Vavasi Telegence Pvt Ltd in the presence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Industries Minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal for establishing the project.
